Microsoft interested in licensing Nokia name for smartphones

It has been reported today that Microsoft is looking to licence the Nokia brand for its own products after buying Nokia's devices and services division earlier this year. Any such deal would allow Microsoft to build and release smartphones and other products in the future with the Nokia brand.

Android L has big camera plans

Google laid it all out in terms of its roadmap for Android at the company's I/O conference last week. Android will become a platform that crosses form factors and niches to become the be all and end all product for Google. Android L will be the next smartphone and tablet release as Google is very much sticking with the form factor that started it all. A few more details about the camera software heading our way on Android L have emerged today.

Sony updates Xperia Z1, Z1 Compact, and Z Ultra to Android 4.4.4

Last week Sony revealed that three of its Xperia devices were getting updated to Android 4.4.4 KitKat in the near future. That future really was near as the company has today started rolling out the latest version of Android to the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra.

Galaxy S5 struggles against the iPhone in May

Samsung's Galaxy S5 failed to surpass sales of Apple's iPhone during the month of May, despite the GS5 arriving with a huge bang in April. The Galaxy S5 arrived amid hugely expensive advertising campaigns and with the massively successful Galaxy S4 and S3 as its predecessors.

Android Wear to be a locked design with no OEM customization

Google is keeping stricter control over Android Wear than it does the smartphone Android software by limiting how much OEM's can change the platform. Companies building products for Android Wear will not be able to dramatically customize the user interface or the overall design of the software.

The G2 ended LG's stereotype as a Samsung copycat, thanks mostly to its truly unique form factor that has become a standard of LG's premium smartphones. In its game of oneupmanship with Samsung, LG may have finally managed to get ahead with the LG G3. Maybe.
