Airplay removes Wi-Fi requirement in iOS 8 Posted: 04 Jun 2014 07:22 AM PDT Apple's push to make iOS more connected to other devices has made the upcoming iOS 8 a friendlier OS for media sharing. Part of the new capabilities includes making it so AirPlay no longer requires a Wi-Fi connection. Under its current setup, AirPlay links an iPhone or iPad to Apple TV by connecting all devices to the same Wi-Fi network. However in iOS 8, the connection is now direct.
