Sony Impresses with Xperia M5

Sony revealed late last year that it would be changing its smartphone strategy to work on high end handsets. While that meant the Xperia Z flagship range, the company also planned to work on exciting new high end devices that fit into the mid-range. The now officially launched Xperia M5 fits that bill, as will the Xperia C5 Ultra when it launches next month. Back to the M5 for now as this seems a very impressive mid-range smartphone.

OnePlus Co-founder Reconfirms Second Smartphone for 2015

OnePlus is currently riding a wave of publicity as its OnePlus 2 Flagship Killer has been well received by critics and consumers alike. However, the company has not finished its smartphone output for the year as co-founder Carl Pei discussed with USA Today. The head of OnePlus revealed that a new handset with the company's branding will be landing later in the year, maybe in time for Christmas.

HTC Desire 728 Poses Pre-Launch

We have heard plenty about the new HTC Desire 728 recently, the device passed through TENAA and in the process revealed its specs and design. Despite passing through the Chinese regulatory body and being certified for sale, HTC has still not announced the new mid-range device. However, a new leak shows the Desire 728 out in the wild... surely this device will land soon.

Sony Schedules IFA Event for September 2

With the August sun shining bright it is time to cast an eye to the IFA trade expo in Berlin, which is now just a month away. The event will get underway September 4 through September 9, so expect plenty of smartphone manufacturers to announce their events in the coming weeks. Sony for example already has, sending out invites for its September 2 launch event.

Apple Concedes Chinese Number 1 Position to Xiaomi

Apple is no longer the best-selling smartphone manufacturer in China, a statement that has an air of inevitability about it. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus had put Apple at the top of the pile in China over the last quarter, but it was a position the company was unlikely to maintain as sales slowed (still impressive nonetheless). The companies taking Apple's crown are Xiaomi at number one and Huawei number two.
